Nusa Tenggara Barat, Indonesia
Lombok: the island where Adrian Campbell is building
One strait east of Bali, with the same beaches and a fraction of the development. Government money, a MotoGP circuit and direct flights from Perth and Darwin have arrived. Adrian Campbell has arrived too.

The island
Lombok lies directly east of Bali across the Lombok Strait, part of the province of Nusa Tenggara Barat. Mount Rinjani, Indonesia's second-highest volcano, dominates the north. The Sasak people make up most of the population, the island is mostly Muslim where Bali is Hindu, and its pace is slower. The three Gili islands off the north-west coast draw divers and backpackers; the south coast has the surf; the south-west peninsula of Sekotong has quiet bays and its own smaller Gilis.
Lombok International Airport sits in the centre-south of the island near Praya. Lembar, on the west coast, is the ferry port for Bali.
What is changing
The Indonesian government has backed Lombok as a priority destination. The Mandalika Special Economic Zone on the south coast holds the Pertamina Mandalika Circuit, which has hosted MotoGP since 2022, with hotels and infrastructure built around it. Visitor arrivals to the province reached 2,382,008 in 2025, up 47 per cent on the year before, according to Statistics Indonesia. Direct flights now connect Lombok with Perth and Darwin, and Scoot flies from Singapore. Kinnara Capital's view is that Lombok today is where Bali was 20 years ago.
What happened here
In 2024 the founders of Kinnara set up Kinnara Capital to develop property of their own, and chose Lombok. The company spent several years assembling land in the village of Buwun Mas, in Sekotong, buying only once each title had been confirmed through the courts and the BPN land office. Six settled plots hold its site office and staff housing. Its flagship, Saraya Beach Resort & Residences, is 154 beachfront villas designed by KRAM Space Architect of Thailand and contracted to TSG Construction Indonesia.
Lombok is also where the hardest episode of recent years played out. Kinnara was the marketing partner for Marina Bay City, a project developed by companies controlled by Jamie McIntyre, until Adrian reported him to Indonesian police in 2025 and withdrew. The Marina Bay City statement sets it out. Kinnara Capital's own land in Buwun Mas has nothing to do with that project.
The village
On 27 June 2026 Kinnara Capital held a community day on Pengantap beach in Buwun Mas, with village leaders, local officials, the contractor's team and the handover of support for a children's playground for Dusun Pengantap. Adrian spoke in Indonesian. The photographs are on the community page.
For Australians
Lombok is a short international hop from Perth or Darwin and a ferry or a 30-minute flight from Bali. The rules for foreign ownership are the same as the rest of Indonesia: no freehold in your own name, leasehold or a PT PMA holding a building right instead, and your own notary and lawyer. The Lombok guide for Australians and the glossary cover the detail.
