Sekotong and Buwun Mas: the corner of West Lombok where Adrian Campbell is building

Two hours from the airport and a world away from Kuta. Sekotong is the part of Lombok that development has barely reached, and Buwun Mas is the village at its heart.

The peninsula

Sekotong is a district of West Lombok Regency on the island's south-west peninsula. It is known for white-sand beaches, sheltered bays and the small southern Gili islands, Gili Nanggu, Gili Sudak and Gili Kedis among them, reached by boat from its shore. On a clear day you can see across the Lombok Strait to Bali's Mount Agung. Few resorts, clear water and quiet are most of its appeal. The hills behind the coast are dry for much of the year, and the villages between them live from fishing, farming and, increasingly, small-scale tourism.

Buwun Mas is one of Sekotong's villages. It takes in several beaches on the southern coast, including Pengantap, where Kinnara Capital held its community day in June 2026. Dusun Pengantap is the hamlet closest to the Saraya site.

Why it stayed quiet

Two things slowed development here: road access and land titles. The road from Lembar winds along the coast and over the hills, and for years it was the reason visitors stopped at Senggigi in the north-west rather than continuing south. Much of the coastal land has been held by families for generations, often under old village records rather than modern certificates, which makes clean purchase slow and careful work. That is also why it is still available.

What Kinnara Capital has done here

Kinnara Capital has spent several years assembling land in Buwun Mas parcel by parcel. It buys only once ownership has been confirmed through the courts and the BPN land office, and it holds powers of attorney so that certificates pass directly into the company's name when issued. Six adjoining plots already settled hold its staff housing and site office. The flagship project on this land is Saraya Beach Resort & Residences: 154 villas set back 100 metres from the beach.

The company's local team is drawn from the villages around the site, and Adrian Campbell, who speaks Indonesian, deals with village leaders and officials directly. The company holds community days in the surrounding villages, supports local schools and in June 2026 handed over support for a children's playground for Dusun Pengantap.

What development will mean here

Saraya will bring construction jobs first and hospitality jobs after: two restaurants, a beach club, a spa and 154 villas run as a hotel. Kinnara Capital's position is that the village should share in that, which is why its school support is aimed at the children who will be old enough to take those jobs when the resort opens. The community page sets out the approach.

Getting there

Sekotong is roughly 1.5 to 2 hours by road from Lombok International Airport and about 45 minutes from Lembar, the ferry port for Bali. New direct flights link Lombok with Perth and Darwin, and Scoot flies from Singapore. Lombok's other large development, the Mandalika Special Economic Zone and its MotoGP circuit, is on the south coast to the east.
